Our Certified Industrial Personnel – CIP program can help you start a stimulating and well-paid industrial career.

CIP will:

Expand your abilities to find and retain work.
Help you market yourself to employers.
Provide the safety training required for today’s industrial employment.
Provide opportunities for industrial work internship.
Help you find full time industrial employment.
Provide ongoing employment support and counseling for six (6) months after you graduate.

CIP has been developed to prepare unemployed and underemployed Albertans to enter and retain industrial employment.  If you:

Require improved academic qualifications or skills to meet the demands of industrial employment.
Want to learn new career skills.
Want to work in heavy industry.
Have job search and/or job retention difficulties.
Have expired or no safety training certificates.

Program Overview

CIP is a twenty (20) week training program that includes:

AU - Academic Upgrading: 180 Hours*

CPM - Career Path Management: 50 Hours

CPM-6 Intrapersonal Management
CPM-7 Interpersonal Management

CD - Career Development: 90 Hours

JR - Job Retention: 34.5 Hours

Job Retention develops the skills needed to maintain employment and take advantage of opportunities for career advancement that arise from employment. After completing JR, you will to:
  • demonstrate the ability to meet employers' expectations
  • make positive changes in employment
  • contributing to a positive workplace
  • meet your expectations as an employee
  • describe your rights and responsibilities in the Alberta workplace

CT - Basic Computer Skills: 30 Hours

ST - Occupational Safety Skills: 60 Hours

ST-1: Standard First Aid
ST-2: Level A CPR
ST-3: Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
ST-4: Construction Safety Training System (CSTS)
ST-5: Basic Employee Safety Training (BEST)
ST-6: Counterbalanced Forklift Safety
ST-7: Confined Space Entry and Awareness
ST-8: H2S Alive
ST-9: Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)

CS - Customer Service: 6 hours

Customer Service training defines customers traditionally as consumers of business products and services as well as non-traditionally as supervisors, colleagues, and coworkers within an organization. Customer Service is premised on the assumptions that:
  1. Everyone in a business should view themselves as customer service ambassadors for their business.
  2. Successful repeat sales are the outcome of well-delivered customer service.

IW - Integrated Work Internship: 200 Hours**

IW-01 Week 1

FW - Follow Up

FW-01 Three (3) months after graduation
FW-02 Six (6) months after graduation

After you graduate, you will have relevant work internship and the industrial connections to start your new career.
