Construction Craft Personnel - CCP
The Construction Craft Personnel (CCP) program will qualify you as a Construction Craft Labourer so you can start a challenging and lucrative construction career.
Construction Craft Labourers prepare and clean up construction sites, move materials and equipment and perform demolition, excavation and compaction activities. You will work on a wide variety of buildings, structures and premises, including: municipal sewer and water mains, roads, dams, bridges, tunnels, railways and canals. Your duties and responsibilities vary from one job to another but, in general, you:
- handle and distribute construction materials (e.g. load and unload vehicles with supplies, equipment and construction materials; move tools, equipment and construction materials to and from work areas; remove rubble and other debris)
- excavate, backfill and compact subgrade (e.g. move and level earth using shovels and rakes, operate pneumatic tampers)
- place, consolidate and protect case-in-place concrete or masonry structures (e.g. shovel cement and other materials into cement mixers; mix, pour and spread concrete; use electric and pneumatic vibrators)
- install municipal sewer and water mains (e.g. dig trenches using shovels and other hand tools, align pipes and perform related activities)
- assemble and dismantle scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring and barricades at construction sites.
This is a designated occupation in Alberta and pays between $13 and $25 per hour. When you complete this program you will graduate, as a CCL Trainee, directly into construction employment.
A Trainee in a designated occupation is equivalent to an Apprentice in a trade occupation. As in an apprenticeship, you will register with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) and receive a record book (or “blue book) in which you formally record your occupational training progress. After accumulating, and documenting, 2000 hours (12 months) of relevant occupational training progress (paid construction work experience) and achieving the established standards of academic performance (Alberta Grade 9 or passing the AIT Theory Exam) you will be awarded an Alberta Occupational Certificate and are designated as a Construction Craft Labourer.
Hours earned in CCL designation are eligible to be included as accumulated hours in eleven trade apprentice streams: Bricklayer, Carpenter, Concrete Finisher, Electrician, Floorcovering Installer, Glazier, Insulator, Lather-Interior Systems Mechanic, Painter and Decorator, Plumber, and Roofer
If you are interested in a trades career, Lokken will assist you to identify a career path to future employment in one of these five streams.
